Golden Jubilee 1972-2022 Celebrations

50 Years on and we are still going.

27 current and past members met at The White Hart pub at Cullompton to celebrate our Golden Jubliee.

This is where it all started.

HOW?

Well, the pub landlord of the White HartĀ  just moved to the area and placed an article in the local paper to see if there was any other like minded people who were interested in Scuba Diving. I believe 15 people turned up to that first meeting.

A copy of the original article was passed around for the members to see along with some other memorabilia.

Originally the Club was known as Mid DevonĀ  Sub Aqua Club but the name was changed in October 1976 to Tiverton & District to make it easier for potential members to find us.

Mike Brice, one of the founder members talked about what it was like to dive in the early days before even wetsuits were around. Members shuddered to think about diving in jeans and jumpers. We are so lucky now to have the modern equipment and protective clothing.

Mike was presented with an honorary membership of the Tiverton Sub Aqua Club along with a letter from British Sub Aqua Club headquarters acknowledging his support.

Thanks to Mike and also Tony for organizing it and Tony and Paul for the speeches.

A lovely evening was had by all.
